Minister Ablonczy Greets Jamaica's Prime Minister Monday, 22 October 2012 The Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs), greets Jamaica’s Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller  upon her arrival in Ottawa yesterday.

Also in the picture are Chris Alexander (left), Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence, and Senator Arnold Nicholson (right), Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.

Prime Minister Simpson Miller is in Canada on her first official visit. She will meet with Prime Minister Stephen Harper to discuss matters of shared interest, including regional security, trade and investment, international financial issues and multilateral cooperation.

This year Canada and Jamaica are commemorating 50 years of strong diplomatic relations based on a shared Commonwealth history, significant political and commercial links, and extensive people-to-people ties. There are more than 230,000 Jamaican-Canadians, which makes them the largest Caribbean diaspora in Canada. This community provides a valuable contribution to the bilateral relationship by fostering investment, promoting tourism and enhancing cultural relations.
